18th August 2023, Weekly Update

  1. Sunday 20 Aug

Services at 9.30 and 10.30 am (also Live-streamed).  The passage is Isaiah 6:1-13, the theme: Ask not what Jesus can do for you. Ask what you can do for Jesus.

As part of the 10.30 service Harry is being baptised in the West Bay. If you are able, please be part of the congregation on the beach. Immediately after the benediction, go out the High Street door, go down Balderstone’s Wynd directly opposite and onto the beach.

2)   Sleeping Giant

Chapter 2 of this inspirational book also looks at Isaiah 6:1-13.  New stock arrived this week. Copies will be on sale at coffee priced £7.  Pay by card or cash. Alternatively Amazon are selling the ebook for £5.99 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sleeping-Giant-Church-Awake-Arise-ebook/dp/B09LVQCW1B/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= Why not buy your copy, read the chapter, then arrange to chat with a few others about I?. Each chapter concludes with a few questions which I’m sure you’ll find helpful.

3)   Praying with Others

Only the Holy Spirit can stir the Sleeping Giant that the church has become. Please pray for God to send the Holy Spirit in revival. Praying on your own for this is good. Praying together is even better. Jesus tells us that something additional happens when people pray together. He said, ‘If two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for them by my father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them’ (Matthew 18:19,20).

There are two weekly gatherings for prayer in St Andrew Blackadder open to all. Monday prayer happens in Room 1 between 10 and 11 am. Wednesday evening prayer happens on Zoom between 7.00 and 7.30 pm.   Please contact the office for login details:

Others, I know, meet regularly in homes to pray with one another. Don’t stop.

Is this something you might want to start doing? You do not need to ask anyone for permission to start a prayer group. You can do this with a few folk you know. Equally, it would be fantastic to have another prayer group meeting regularly that is open to the whole church.

How might God be prompting you to get together with others to pray for the revival of the church and the healing of the nation?

4)  Sustainability Disadvantaged Action Group:  Sunday 11.45 am

Those who have the least are most often those most affected by climate change and yet least equipped to do anything about it. This working party aims, firstly, to identify areas where we as individuals and as a congregation can help and then, secondly, to take action to ensure that that help is given. Can you help? Are you interested? We’re going to meet for half an hour after Church on Sunday 20 August at 11:45 to discuss the way forward. It would be wonderful to see you there!

5)   Home Group at the Trevors

Hugh and Margaret Trevor’s house group would welcome two or three new members.  It restarts its weekly Wednesday meetings on August 30th. It will be studying John’s letters in the Bible, and also discussing ‘Sleeping Giant’ questions. Hugh’s contact details are in the Church Directory.

6)  Ink and Imagination: Traprain Church, Tuesday 22 August, 7 pm.

A night of poetics, music, story, inspiration and reflection with Joel Mckerrow. Musician Rachel Zylstra will also bring a feature set.  Free admission. Details at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/ink-and-imagination-poetics-music-story-inspiration-with-joel-mckerrow-tickets-684397119207

7)   Thank you

Neil
