19th August 2022, Weekly Update

  1. Mrs Jean Drummond

Jean died, aged 96, on 31 July in Fidra Nursing Home. She’d lived in Craigleith Avenue since her marriage in 1947. Pretty much every Sunday she’d be in church. She was a quiet but incredibly strong person. We assure her son, David, of our prayers.

2)  Mrs Helena da Costa

Helena died, aged 93, on 13 August at her home in Dirleton Court, where she stayed since coming to N Berwick in 2007. She found in St Andrew Blackadder, a place where her faith was nourished, a community where she was cherished and an invitation to use her gifts and talents to bless others. Her funeral will be in church on Wednesday 24 August at 11 am.

3)  AV Upgrade

Last year you generously gave money to enable the AV system in church to be upgraded. Sorting out the details has taken longer than expected. Installation begins on Monday 22 August. The joinery and then the technical installation is going to take some weeks. During this time the projectors and cameras will be out of use. I’m sorry to say that this means there will be no online services on YouTube, and no DVDs for three or four Sundays. As soon as the installation is complete streaming of services and DVDs will resume.

4)  Messy Church 4th September 4pm-6pm

Messy Church is a great way to connect with families in our community and spread the love of Christ. We are always looking for new volunteers. If you haven’t been involved yet, then perhaps you’d like to find out more by contacting Alison Singleton. Her contact details are in the directory.

5)  Douglas Hamilton

The Presbytery of Lothian will ordain and induct Douglas to the charge of Traprain. The service will take place in Prestonkirk  in East Linton on Thursday 8 September at 7 pm. Douglas would be glad to see any from St Andrew Blackadder who are able to mark this significant day in his ministerial journey.  The Hamilton family are moving into the manse in East Linton at the beginning of September. We pray God’s richest blessing on Douglas, Suzanne, Jack and Grace as they begin this new chapter.

6)  After Church Picnic, Sunday 11 September

At Canty Bay, beginning about 12 noon. Bring your own picnic, your folding chair or rug, and enjoy fellowship for as long or short a time as you can manage.

7)  Harbour Consultation

North Berwick Harbour Trust are holding a public meeting on Tuesday 30 August in the Hope Rooms at 6.30 pm.  At it the Trust will outline their plans to develop the harbour. The Trust is hoping that everyone with an interest in the harbour’s future will attend and offer their feedback on these plans.

8) Prayer Gathering
