20th January 2023, Weekly Update

  1. Malawi Coffee Morning,  Saturday 21 January.

The churches in North Berwick have been supporting an orphans project in Malawi for 20 years, primarily through the annual January Coffee Morning. It will be held in St Andrew Blackadder Hall on Saturday 21 January between 10 and 12 noon. There will be no entry charge. Coffee, tea and bakery will be served and cash donations invited. There will also be a bakery stall and gift stall.

2)   Sunday 22 January

Services are at 9.30 am and 10.30 am, with the 10.30 am service live-streamed.  Junior Church and YF meet at 10.30 am.  The passage is Matthew 4:1-11 and the theme, Testing Times.

3)   Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

St Andrew Blackadder is glad to be part of North Berwick and District Association of Churches. One of the main expressions of this is the annual service held during the international Week of Prayer for Christian Unity that occurs every January.

This year the service is in St Andrew Blackadder, at 6 pm, this week,  Sunday 22 January and will be led by Margot Robertson.

4)   Contributing to Worship

In recent weeks Ann Cubitt, Donna Kellock and Margot Robertson have led some of our services. All three have undertaken training to be Worship Leaders. Their love for Jesus and enthusiasm for leading worship has been very evident. Their contributions have enriched our worship and I am very grateful for their willingness to share the workload.  Please continue to support and encourage them.

Other people assist with parts of the service – leading prayer, all age talk, reading the Bible.  I would be delighted if more people were able to contribute. If you sense a prompt from God to take part in any way and feel ready to do so, please let me know.  If you sense a prompt from God but feel you would need some training first, please let me know and I’ll see what can be arranged.

In particular I am planning to organise two workshops to prepare people for leading prayer in worship. If I know who might like to take part I can arrange it around their availability. So please speak to me if you are interested.

5)   Barbara Bursary

When Barbara Stonehouse died in 2019 she left money to St Andrew Blackadder Church. The Kirk Session decided to use some of it to set up a bursary fund to assist members of the congregation grow in their faith, develop their discipleship and participate in mission. In 2022 bursaries were awarded to help people attend Spring Harvest and with the costs of training as Worship Leaders.

Is there some event you’d like to attend or course you’d like to go on to help you grow in your faith? Is there some way that God is prompting you to serve? If there is and cost is holding you back, why not apply for a bursary.  Forms are in the St Andrew St entrance.

6)   Prayer Gathering

Each Wednesday on Zoom between for 30 minutes starting at 7 pm.

Please contact the office for log in details.
